ASTARTE HOTEL is a stone mansion hotel located in the Yeni Mahalle neighborhood of the ancient city of Edessa, which has been inhabited for 12,000 years (since the Neolithic period). The hotel is situated on the acropolis (upper city) and consists of 18 rooms with wooden beams, barrel and cross vaults, and an interior courtyard, all restored in accordance with their original design.
ASTARTE; known as Ishtar, Atargatis, and Cybele in Mesopotamia, is referred to as ASTARTE among the Western Semites and Phoenicians.
ASTARTE is the goddess of fertility and productivity. It was believed that she regulated the lives and growth of all plants and animals in nature, as well as certain celestial events like the movements of the Moon. The dove was the sacred animal of Astarte, and Venus was her sacred star.
